MIT Theater faculty member featured in new book of drawing practices for performance
Class of 1949 Professor of Theater Arts Jay Scheib's drawings included among selection of works by 42 American artists.
The Theatre of Drawing, edited by Bonnie Marranca and Daniel Sack, is now available wherever books are sold.
The first work of its kind to present such an expansive theatrical perspective, it includes more than 160 images from luminaries in the field. The individual artists’ portfolios, many of them in color, offer a remarkably intimate look into the creative process that transforms drawing into the art of performance.
Among the artists featured in the volume are MIT Theater’s very own Jay Scheib along with Ann Hamilton, Robert Wilson, Gyun Hur, Julie Mehretu, Annie-B Parson, Lucinda Childs, Mina Nishimura, Madeline Hollander, Raven Chacon, Peter Schumann, and Joan Jonas.
The new volume marks PAJ Publications’ 50th year of publishing, joining the 160 other titles the press has published since its founding in 1976.
