The Playwrights Lab was the longest I have ever sat with a piece of my own writing. It was incredibly fun and educational to leave each class convinced no further revision was possible and return a week later to hear a script reach an even higher bar.

The MIT Playwrights Lab is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between MIT student playwrights and professional theater artists. Started as a weekend-long event in 2017, the Lab has now grown into a multi-week festival of staged readings featuring the work of the writers enrolled in the Playwrights Lab (21T.355/21T.555) subject.
Each writer in the subject develops a script over the course of the semester which culminates in a collaboration between a professional director and actors on a public staged reading of the play. Student plays featured in the Lab have gone on to further development at MIT through the Alumni Reading Series and at professional theaters in Boston and beyond.
The Playwrights Lab is a creative and complex environment where a young playwright can find and develop their own voice, and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.
